Green Cleaners for Saint Patrick’s Day

The Purple Fig is our name, but we are all about being green!  We don’t just mean green in a trendy way, we mean green, as in we are passionate about making our own all-natural homemade cleaners and using microfiber cloths instead of wasting paper towels. You can read more about our best cleaning practices here.

To celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, we want to share some of our favorite green cleaner recipes with you.  Many natural cleaners are simply made of a mixture of vinegar, water and either some sort of herb or essential oil.  We wanted to focus on recipes that used actual greenery like basil, mint or rosemary to keep with the Saint Patrick’s Day theme and to scent and slightly tint your green cleaner!

Sage has been tested to have antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, so when you combine this with distilled vinegar and water, you get a powerful and lovely smelling green cleaner. – http://naturallymindful.com/2013/12/sage-infused-vinegar.html

The smell of an almost pure vinegar cleaner can be harsh, but if you add lemon and rosemary or some orange peels, you can achieve a citrus scent. – http://mamaguru.com/diy-great-smelling-natural-cleaners/

Instead of white vinegar, this recipe calls for raw apple cider vinegar to be combined with 7 different herbs including: sage, lavender, rosemary, wormwood, mugwort, mint and rue. –  http://it-takes-time.com/2014/04/diy-antimicrobial-cleaner-vinegar-four-thieves.html
