Timing is Everything
I have had many clients ask how we do so much in such a short amount of time. The first thing I ask them is, “When do you ever have 3 or 4 uninterrupted hours in your home?” The answer to that is always never, or they wouldn’t need us! But to truly address the inquiry; it is about methods and timing.
I cannot fit the methods for each room in one blog post. Well, I could. But you wouldn’t want to read the whole thing at once. 🙂 I can go room by room in future posts and I fully intend to, so stay tuned for that. Today, we’ll talk about timing.
We have great timing. Amanda and Charlene taught us that and we took it and adjusted it ever so slightly to fit our own bodies and minds. The timing and methods I personally use will vary slightly from my co-workers, but you will get enough of the detail to spice your own soup. So to speak.
If you can possibly set aside 3 to 4 hours to clean your own home, do it! What you want to do is start in the bathrooms. Each bathroom should take 20 to 25 minutes, not counting the floors. Next, move into the kitchen. You’re going to do everything in here as well, from the stovetop and vent hood, to the cabinet fronts that someone left fingerprints on around every knob. After the kitchen is a sort of period of rest before the sprint. It’s dusting time! Start at the top and work your way to the bottom of each room. Last but certainly not least, the floors. Vacuum thoroughly. I cannot stress that enough. A good vacuum job will save you during the mop. The mop should only take about 1/3 of the time the vacuum did!
That’s it! That’s how we move through a house. Remember, we don’t have kids, dogs or anyone else stopping our flow through the home. Put on some headphones and put your cell phone where you can’t see it.
Suggestions for those who cannot set aside 3 to 4 hours just for cleaning:
1. Do one room a day. That’s about 30 to 40 minutes, no matter which room we’re tackling.
2. Pick a subject and do one every other day. Dusting, kitchen, bathrooms or floors.
3. Forced family fun! If the kids are old enough and your partner is willing, this can save time by dividing and conquering.
Next week, we’ll go over the actual methods for dusting and take stock of what’s important!
