Keep Loving Your Kitty!
We’re all animal lovers here at The Purple Fig. We try to take care of our furry children as green and as well as we take care of your homes.
Recently, our very own Vanessa the Magical and Illuminating™ was having an issue with cat urine odor. She tried every trick we have in our kits: vinegar, baking soda, eucalyptus oil… and persevered into Nature’s Remedy, tea tree oil and BacOut. Nothing seemed to remove the odor completely.
So what did she do? What any good Figgy does – she went online and researched! Here’s what Vanessa found – the scoop, if you will.
When cat urine dries, the smell actually concentrates and becomes worse. Getting it wet can make you think it’s gone, but when it dries again; the smell is right back! The solution is to find a way to break down the actual enzymes.
Vanessa found a great little site with the following recipe:
- 1 qt. Hydrogen Peroxide
- 1/4 cup Baking Soda
- 1 tsp. Liquid Soap
For a smaller batch try 16oz of Hydrogen Peroxide, 1 tbsp of Baking Soda and 1 tsp of Liquid Soap. This will fit into a convenient spray bottle.
Warnings! Read before using!
- When mixing, this is going to bubble and foam. Mix it slowly and carefully!
- Hydrogen Peroxide is a whitener. Spot test a very small, inconspicuous area for colorfastness.
The site also has surface specific instruction and warnings. Check it out!
Happy Cleaning everyone!
